New Year, Not New Year, Resolutions, New Beginnings?

I’ve never been a fan of the ‘New Year, new me’ that is championed at this time of year, but perhaps not for the reason you think…

Every single day is a new beginning, a new opportunity to change and grow, but of course we know that beneath it we are still us. We are still the same person, we’ve just bloomed a little more. The fantastically interesting thing about humans is that we can grow in light and also in darkness. We are yin and yang: the perfect balance. Often we reject these undesirable aspects of ourselves, but they too teach us a valuable lesson.

When we call for a new beginning we sometimes gloss over, or ignore the incredibly hard work we have put in to becoming the version of us that stands here right now. So remember…

You may not be exactly who you want to be right now, but what have you survived to get here? What have you endured or overcome? I’d imagine that you, five years ago would barely recognise the version of you present today.

Whether you’re choosing to welcome a new beginning today, or continue wintering until March, remember that you can begin a new chapter whenever you decide to, you don’t need anybody else’s permission.

Before I end, a little message from my Guide Silas: ‘in mundum vastissimum imus’ meaning ‘out into the wide world we go’.

Happy New Year!
